Chenille yarn has a looped, textured surface that grabs water quickly. As a result, the towel feels light in your hand but still dries you off in fewer passes than you might expect.
Fabric softener leaves a waxy coating on fibers. That coating blocks water, so towels absorb less and take longer to dry. The Once Again Home Co. Bath Towel is soft from the first use, so you don't need softener. Machine wash, skip the bleach and softener, and tumble dry. Wool dryer balls are a good swap if you want to cut drying time.
